About
Delia Marianetti is a Chicago based artists who’s passion as an artist started at a young age in her nana's basement. There lay a table and a worn out dining chair with various paints, fabrics and too much glitter - it was knighted her “creative table.” Marianetti has taken the joy and creative exploration opportunities this environment allowed to re-enter the mindset of that little girl, reflecting on the simplistic beauty that is childhood while delving into the complexities of adulthood.
Process is most important in Marianetti’s work. Lately, she has started with sifting through albums or home videos to find inspiration from the past--to rediscover forgotten memories. She then begins almost all of her paintings with a wash of saturated yellow; it connects her to the comforting nostalgia of the past. The yellow peaking through in selective sections as well as giving the entire piece a warm glow is a tool she uses for contrast; it symbolizes how the world gets tiresome as we start to mature and become more painfully aware. She will often combat this bright yellow with a blue to distinguish between the two stages of life; where one is perhaps mourning one's younger self, yet anticipating future adult experiences. As Marianetti paints these memories, she allows herself to take the time to reminisce on the specialness of each point in time, gradually layering the paint. This process of reflection is what ties her to her work and enables her to contemplate and accept a time in her life that went by too fast.
